Microsoft: Windows 8.1 Preview coming on 26th June

After months of rumours, it’s always nice to get an official confirmation isn’t it? Well, Microsoft have done just that and have revealed a lot more about Windows 8.1.

Microsoft today stated that the Windows 8.1 Preview will ship on the 26th June- the same time of BUILD. “We have much more to share about Windows 8.1 in the coming weeks. We will also be making a public preview of Windows 8.1 available starting on June 26, timed with the Build developer conference in San Francisco. The preview will be available for Windows 8 and Windows RT,” Microsoft stated in an official blog post.

So there we have it. Windows 8, Windows RT and Windows Server 2012 will all benefit.

Microsoft has already mentioned that this update will be free and available via the Windows Store upon its release.

Microsoft Windows CFO Tami Reller today confirmed that Windows Blue  will be free. Reller also confirmed the name Windows 8.1 which was recently seen in leaked development builds of the OS. Microsoft revealed that the update will be free and available from the Windows Store for all Windows 8 and Windows RT users. Microsoft reiterated that the Windows 8.1 Preview will ship on 26th June for both Windows 8 and Windows RT

Tami Reller, speaking at the JP Morgan Technology, Media and Telecom conference has also announced that the Windows Store now has more than 70,000 apps since launch!
